About

Light Up Kelowna transforms downtown Kelowna into a digital public art gallery. Through projections, sound, and video, it brings contemporary art into shared public spaces and invites residents and visitors to experience the city in new ways.

Downtown Kelowna

The exhibition consists of three connected experiences: immersive projections along the Artwalk, a layered audio installation, and a three-channel video displayed on the Kelowna Community Theatre. These elements work in harmony to transform the downtown core into a living gallery.

Gobo Light Projections

Kelowna Art Walk

Large-scale visuals along the walkway of the Kelowna Artwalk, layering colour, motion, and imagery onto the architecture so the route itself becomes a moving canvas.

Layered Audio Experience

Kelowna Art Walk

A soundscape plays beneath each projection, pairing every visual with its own sonic environment so light and sound work together as you move through the space.

Three-Channel Video

Urban Screens - Kelowna Community Theatre

A synchronized projection across three screens transforms the exterior of the Community Theatre into a large-format digital artwork.

who we are

The initiative is a partnership between the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan (ARTSCO), UBC Okanagan's Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, and the City of Kelowna. Together we create opportunities for artists, researchers, students, and community members to work with digital public art and creative technology — and to encounter art beyond the walls of a traditional gallery.
